CV Singer Information

CVCV was rehearsing its 4th concert of the inaugural season when I got the idea to have a large ensemble selection as an encore. Since many singers already sing in other groups or have too many commitments to add another event, I thought I would find a way to utilize talented singers, who could handle foreign language music, do some learning on their own, and put together these ensembles for a concert.

The test was gathering singers for the Mother’s Day concert, May 14, 2023. I thought it would be special to sing “Va, Pensiero” from Nabucco by Verdi (the freeing of the slaves’ chorus) and dedicate the performance to the mothers in Ukraine.

I started by inviting many of my private voice students, and a few friends that I knew sang, but hadn’t made full-time commitments to any singing group. I built melody tracks and made pronunciation audio and shared them with all the singers. 14 singers rehearsed twice and sang the selection with the CVCV soloists as an encore. The response was overwhelmingly positive – from the audience and the singers.

I could see and hear that it was bringing a lot of joy to the singers and the audience to have a couple of large ensemble selections, so I decided to form a chorus, CV Singers, the chorus arm of CVCV. The CV Singers join CVCV soloists for a few selections at each concert.

FAQ’s

How can I get invited to participate as a CV Singer?

Contact me, Mr. Nagel, at cvcvdirector@gmail.com and I will set up an appointment for you to meet me at my studio in Cathedral City for an interview/vocalizing session (45 minutes). In addition to answering questions about your availability, desire, and commitment, I will vocalize you to establish your musical level, see if you can match pitch and can learn music. I will be the only one who issues invites to join CV Singers.

If I get an invitation to be a CV Singers, do I have to attend all rehearsals and concerts?

No. Although you are invited to sing at all the concerts, you may pick and choose, according to your availability and schedule. However, once you commit to a concert, you must follow the required rehearsal schedule. Typically, there are four rehearsals. You must attend the final dress rehearsal to appear at the concert.

What if I have to bow out of a concert?

Your priorities come first! I hope you are safe, healthy, and happy. There will be many concerts. I hold no ill feelings about an absence, and hope that you can join us at a future concert. During the year, repertoire will be repeated, so there’s a good chance you’ll sing the selections you worked on at some point!
